Warning Signs that You Need a Septic Tank Cleaning

Septic Tank Cleaning
At Southeastern Septic LLC, we want to help make sure that your septic system stays operating at optimal levels. An important part of maintaining your septic system is scheduling regular cleanings, usually every 3 to 5 years, depending on the size of your tank. If you are not on a cleaning schedule yet or think you may need them more frequently, here are two major warning signs that you need a septic tank cleaning:

  • Puddles in your yard- When your septic tank is at or nearing its capacity, it may not be able to accommodate as much water as quickly as it used to. This can cause water to overflow into the surrounding area, creating patches of water in your yard. These puddles are usually easy to distinguish from rain puddles due to their foul smell. If you notice damp patches around your tank, it’s probably time for a cleaning.
  • Plumbing backups- Another indicator that you need a septic tank cleaning is slow drainage in your sinks, tubs, or toilets. As waste flows into your tank, it separates–liquids pass through into the drain field, while solid matter sinks to the bottom and forms sludge, which remains until the tank is emptied. If your tank becomes too full, water may not be able to pass through quickly enough, leading to slow drainage or even backups of wastewater back into your home.

If you notice either of these problems in your home or yard, there’s a strong possibility that you need a septic tank cleaning. Call our team at Southeastern Septic LLC, as soon as possible to empty your tank–acting quickly can save you from developing worse, and more expensive, septic problems.
