How to Tell if You Need Drain Field Repair

Septic Services LakelandPosted bySeptic Services LakelandDecember 13th, 2018

Drain Field Repair

The drain field is the part of your septic system that releases water back into the soil and ultimately into your local water system. Problems with the drain field affect the workings of your whole system and can become costly in addition to being extremely unpleasant. We at Southeastern Septic LLC want to help you keep your septic system in good working order, including your drain field. Here are some indicators that will help you tell if you need drain field repair:

  • Foul Odors- The smell of a malfunctioning septic system is hard to miss. If you notice unpleasant odors in your home or around your yard, particularly around the septic tank, there’s a strong possibility that something is wrong with your tank or drain field.
  • Seeping Water- A failing drain field can no longer accommodate the volume of water it receives. This can cause water from the drain field to overflow and seep into your yard. You may notice puddles or patches of standing water develop around your septic tank, or even notice a change in the health of your grass around that spot, becoming either lusher or more sickly than the surrounding greenery. If you notice water (or evidence of water) in your yard that shouldn’t be there, it’s likely that you need drain field repair.
  • Backups- A problem with your drain field can also cause backups in the drains and toilets inside your home. This can manifest as slow drainage in your water fixtures, or more dramatically as deposits of sludge re-entering your home through the pipes. Backups like this could be a sign that you need to get your tank pumped but could also mean that you need drain field repair.

If you experience any of these issues and suspect you may need drain field repair, call our team at Southeastern Septic LLC, to schedule an inspection. We can determine the source of the problem and implement the right solution.
